1st Mvt. - Nebulus
2nd Mvt. - The Wormhole
I first learned about wormholes through my fascination with the world of Star Trek. John Williams wrote a brilliant piece in Hyperspace for the movie soundtrack Star Wars. I wanted to capture a sense of movement with a percussive feel. To find out what it would sound like to travel through a wormhole. The physics term of wormhole encompasses a hypothetical topographical feature of space-time that is essentially a "shortcut" through space and time. This is a journey through that shortcut.
My first Composition was a minimalist piece. The word Nebulus means "unclear". Originally titled Nebula, this piece takes on the characteristic of Space itself. As the 1st Mvt. it explores simple technique to the marimba with various permutations in which the player can study. Each change envisions a different look into the vast emptiness of the universe. A middle, more upbeat section acts as the flicker of the stars in what we see as the night sky. It is this emptiness of Space spread out so far, which is still so unclear to us. This is where the change in title comes from.
